Q1 2026 earnings from the biggest digital ad platforms point in the same direction: advertising is still growing, and it is growing fast. Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and Reddit all reported double-digit increases in ad revenue, even as they continue to rebuild their products around AI.
AI is now sitting inside search results, feeds, shopping assistants, and ad tools, quietly changing how ads are delivered and measured. Combined ad revenue from Google, Meta, Amazon, and Reddit alone passed $150 billion in a single quarter, showing that advertisers are still spending heavily across platforms that are actively reshaping their ad systems around AI.
Google Ad Revenue Rises as AI Search Usage Increases
Alphabet reported Q1 2026 revenue of $109 billion, up 22% year-over-year. Google's ad revenue reached $77 billion, up 16% from $66.89 billion a year earlier.
Google Search and other advertising was the strongest segment, generating $60 billion in revenue, up 19% year-over-year. The company said search queries hit an all-time high during the quarter, with AI Overviews and AI Mode driving increased usage. These AI features are now also tied to advertising. Google has been placing ads in AI Overviews for U.S. mobile users and is testing ads in AI Mode as it builds commercial models around its AI search products.
The company also said AI response costs fell 30% since upgrading to Gemini 3, reducing the expense of generating AI-powered results at scale.
YouTube ad revenue grew 11% year-over-year to $10 billion. The platform continues to expand ad formats, including side-by-side ads for live mid-rolls on TV and desktop. YouTube and Google One now have 350 million paid subscriptions combined. YouTube surpassed Disney as the world's largest media company earlier this year.
Google Network revenue declined 4% year-over-year to $6.97 billion, continuing a trend of softness in third-party display advertising.
Google Cloud revenue jumped 63% to $20 billion, reflecting demand for AI infrastructure. The company has also expanded its ad tools, replacing Dynamic Search Ads with AI Max for Search and expanding Veo 3 into Ads Asset Studio for AI-generated video ad creative. CEO Sundar Pichai said:
"2026 is off to a terrific start. Our AI investments and full stack approach are lighting up every part of the business."
Meta Ad Revenue Grows as Impressions And Pricing Both Rise
Meta reported Q1 2026 revenue of $56 billion, up 33% year-over-year. Ad revenue accounted for $55 billion, or approximately 98% of total revenue, growing 33% from $41 billion.
The growth was driven by increases on both sides of the equation: ad impressions rose 19% year-over-year, while the average price per ad increased 12%. Meta's family of apps reached 3.56 billion daily active people in March 2026, up 4% year-over-year.
Instagram Reels remains central to Meta's ad growth. More than half of all Instagram ads ran in Reels in 2025, and the company continues to scale short-form video monetization. Meta has also extended Instagram's affiliate commerce to Amazon and eBay.
Meta continues to invest in AI across its ad ecosystem. The company has updated Instagram's ad system with an Adaptive Ranking Model and is using AI interactions to personalize ads. A recent forecast suggested Meta could outpace Google in global ad revenue as early as this year. Mark Zuckerberg said, "We had a milestone quarter with strong momentum across our apps and the release of our first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs."
The company raised its full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $125β145 billion.
Amazon Builds Ads into AI Shopping and Expands DSP Reach
Amazon reported $181 billion in net sales, with advertising revenue reaching $1 billion, up 24% year-over-year. Over the last twelve months, its ad business has now passed $70 billion. According to CEO Andy Jassy, "Advertising grew to over $70 billion in TTM revenue."
The company continues to build ad products into its AI shopping tools. Amazon launched Sponsored Products and Brand Prompts inside Rufus, its AI shopping assistant, creating new conversational ad surfaces. Amazon's Creative Agent, an agentic AI tool for ad creation, expanded to seven new markets during the quarter.
On the distribution side, Amazon has also extended its advertising reach beyond its own properties. Amazon Audiences are now available for Netflix ad buys through Amazon's DSP. The company also launched a unified Campaign Manager to consolidate campaign management across its properties.
Microsoft Sees Steady Ad Growth Alongside Expanding AI Ecosystem
Microsoft reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $82 billion, up 18% year-over-year. Search and news advertising revenue grew 12% year-over-year, excluding traffic acquisition costs.
LinkedIn also contributed with 12% growth in advertising revenue. Microsoft has been integrating LinkedIn targeting into Performance Max campaigns and launched AI Max for Search campaigns to bring AI-driven automation to its ad platform. Microsoft has also launched Copilot Search to bring AI summaries to Bing, expanding the AI-powered search experience alongside its advertising products.
The company's AI business surpassed a $37 billion annual revenue run rate, up 123% year-over-year, according to CEO Satya Nadella.
Reddit Scales Ads Through AI And Community-driven Formats
Reddit reported Q1 2026 revenue of $663 million, up 69% year-over-year. Advertising revenue reached $625 million, up 74%, and net income hit $204 million, up 680% from the prior year.
User growth continued to support monetization. Daily active unique visitors reached 126.8 million, up 17% year-over-year, while weekly active uniques grew 23% to 493.1 million. U.S. average revenue per user rose 54% to $9.63, and global ARPU increased 44%. International revenue grew faster (+76%) than U.S. revenue (+67%).
Reddit has been scaling its ad platform with AI-powered formats. The company launched AI-powered Max campaigns and expanded Dynamic Product Ads to all advertisers. It also debuted Collection Ads with Shopify integration. Reddit is becoming a serious ad channel for brands looking for performance-driven formats tied to authentic community engagement.
CEO Steve Huffman said, "Reddit is a one-of-one business powered by deeply engaged communities and authentic human conversation."
The common Thread for Advertisers
Q1 2026 reinforces a pattern that has been building across earnings cycles: AI is not replacing advertising, it is expanding the surfaces, tools, and targeting systems that power it. From Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode to Amazon's conversational ad surfaces in Rufus, every platform is turning AI infrastructure into new ad inventory.
Infrastructure spending reflects the scale of this bet. Google committed $35.7 billion in Q1 capex, Meta raised its full-year guidance to $125β145 billion, and Amazon spent $44.2 billion in a single quarter. These investments are building the compute capacity that supports both AI products and the ad systems that monetize them.
For advertisers, the practical shift is that campaign management increasingly involves AI-driven tools β from Google's AI Max for Search to Amazon's Creative Agent to Reddit's Max campaigns. The platforms are converging on a model where AI handles more of the optimization, and advertisers interact through natural language and automated workflows rather than manual configuration.
