Google is bringing short-form videos, or “Shorts” to AI Overviews in search. According to Search Engine Roundtable, the Shorts now appear as part of AI Overviews, the generative AI feature that summarizes search queries with synthesized answers and links.
When users search for something, the AI-generated answer may include a short video that appears directly within the summary. The videos are clickable, allowing users to watch them.

Microsoft Bing is doing something similar with Copilot

Microsoft is also bringing short-form video into Bing’s AI responses. These videos appear inside the AI responses on Bing’s Copilot, Search Engine Roundtable said. Microsoft launched Copilot earlier this year and integrated generative AI into Bing’s search results.
Bing’s version cites sources and includes links, much like Google’s AI Overviews. Now, it also features short videos.

AI answers are no longer just about text. Google and Microsoft could change how people get information from searches by introducing short-form formats like Shorts into AI-powered results.
The idea is that video can deliver context, show how something works, or explain a topic in ways that go beyond what text alone can offer.

Google continues to build out AI Overviews. Adding Shorts to AI summaries expands how Google delivers answers to search queries. Previously, Google added clickable links within the AI summaries. These links appear for specific terms when Google’s systems determine that it's helpful to send users to more detailed pages.
