According to Google, there is no separate optimization framework required specifically for AI search. Instead, the same SEO fundamentals that have always applied to Search still apply when content is surfaced inside AI-generated results.
The guide arrives as AI Overviews now appear in 43% of Google searches, up from 15% a year earlier, and are used by over 2 billion monthly users globally. On technical structure, the requirements are the existing ones: a page must be indexed and eligible to appear in Google Search with a snippet. Google adds that perfect semantic HTML is not required, noting "the web in general is not valid HTML, and Google can understand it," and that JavaScript content is processed as long as it is not blocked. Large or frequently updated sites are pointed at crawl budget guidance, and every site is told to reduce duplicate content and verify itself in Search Console.
