Highlights

Google has expanded AI Mode to five new languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. The AI search tool was previously available only in English. The company says the move will allow more users to interact with its AI-powered search tool in their preferred language.

What AI Mode does in search

AI Mode is Google’s attempt to keep pace with AI-first search competitors such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. The feature generates responses to queries and summarizes results.

Hema Budaraju, VP of Product Management at Google Search, wrote in a blog post that the expansion means “more people can now use AI Mode to ask complex questions in their preferred language, while exploring the web more deeply.”

Google has been moving quickly to scale this feature. Last month, the company expanded AI Mode to 180 countries and territories. It also added agentic features such as reservation bookings within AI Mode. This allows users to complete tasks directly from search.
