Google has launched Doppl, an experimental app that uses AI to help users visualize how clothes might look on them. The app allows users to try on clothes digitally using AI.

Available through Google Labs, Doppl is currently being tested in the U.S. on both Android and iOS devices.

How users can use Doppl to visualize outfits

To use the app, users can upload a full-body photo of themselves. Then, they upload a screenshot or image of the outfit they want to try on. This could be from a store, a social media platform like Pinterest or Instagram, or a brand’s website. Once both images are uploaded, Doppl generates a digital image of the user wearing the outfit using AI.

According to Google, Doppl can also create short AI-generated video clips showing how the outfit might look in motion. Users can save their favorite try-on looks, browse past outfits, and share them with friends.

Designed for creators, shoppers, and anyone who wants to visualize outfits

Doppl isn’t the first virtual try-on tool from Google, but it shows the company is leaning towards AI and personalization in retail. Google says the app builds on recent updates to Google Shopping’s existing virtual try-on tools, which also let users upload their photos and see AI-generated visuals of themselves in various clothes.

Previously, Google’s try-on tools were limited to preset models or static images. In September last year, Google expanded the virtual try-on feature, allowing shoppers to try different styles and sizes of dresses on these models. Earlier this year, Google also added pants and skirts to the try-on feature.
