MrBeast has launched a fundraising effort to provide two million people with access to clean, safe drinking water. The biggest YouTube creator, who currently has more than 418 million subscribers, is teaming up with over 3,000 YouTubers from around the world to raise $40 million by August 31.

The campaign, called #TeamWater, is a collaboration between MrBeast, fellow YouTuber and engineer Mark Rober, and WaterAid, a global nonprofit that builds clean water infrastructure. According to MrBeast, the campaign has been in the works for a year. He said he “DM’d every celebrity and influencer on the planet” to get them on board. “I’m throwing everything I have at this,” he said, noting his goal is to reach people’s feeds throughout August with clean water content.

A massive YouTube collaboration with 3 billion subscribers

More than 3,000 creators across 84 countries are participating in the campaign. Some of the biggest names include Kai Cenat, the Stokes Twins, Nick DiGiovanni, Gordon Ramsay, Dude Perfect, and Hank Green. Together, these creators have access to a combined audience of over 3 billion subscribers.

The campaign is entirely peer-to-peer and relies on creators tapping into their communities for donations. Every participating creator will post content to their platforms, primarily YouTube but also TikTok and Instagram, throughout August using the @TeamWater tag to drive awareness and encourage donations.

Where the $40 million will go

WaterAid will use the $40 million to build sustainable clean water systems, including solar-powered wells, atmospheric water generators, and rainwater harvesting systems. These will serve communities in countries like Cambodia, Colombia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Bangladesh and Malawi, as well as underserved areas in the U.S., including Jackson, Mississippi, and rural West Virginia.

YouTube has pledged $2 million in matching funds. TikTok has also donated $1.5 million to the project. According to the organizers, donations can be made directly through YouTube videos using the @TeamWater tag, from the teamwater.org website, or on WaterAid’s donation page.

Building on past campaigns

MrBeast and Rober have previously led massive creator collaborations. Their earlier campaigns, #TeamTrees and #TeamSeas, raised more than $50 million combined for reforestation and ocean cleanup. The creators say they’re tackling water access next because “no one should have to live without it.”

MrBeast’s production company, Beast Holdings, filed for a trademark for #TeamWater as far back as last August, suggesting this campaign has been carefully planned for months.
