Opera has announced Neon, its first AI agent web browser. Opera Neon is designed to perform actions based on user intent. The tool will assist users in completing web tasks and building full digital content.

This is Opera’s attempt to go beyond the standard plug-and-play AI features seen in traditional browsers and to introduce a more integrated system where AI works alongside the user to execute tasks. Henrik Lexow, Opera’s Senior AI Product Director, says the company is “at a point where AI can fundamentally change the way we use the internet and perform all sorts of tasks in the browser. Opera Neon brings this to our users’ fingertips.”
Opera Neon offers three new functions: Chat, Do, and Make
The Neon browser introduces three core functions on its sidebar: Chat, Do, and Make.
“Chat” lets users talk directly to Opera’s native, built-in AI agent. Instead of jumping between tabs or apps, users can use the chatbot interface to ask questions, summarize webpage content, or search for information directly from the browser.

“Do” brings back what Opera previously teased as “Browser Operator.” In March, the company said it was testing ‘Browser Operator,’ an agent that can assist users in performing various tasks. With Opera Neon, users will be able to automate web tasks, such as filling out forms, booking hotels, or scraping webpage content by instructing the AI.
According to Opera, this happens within the browser itself. This means user data does not need to be sent to external servers. Opera Neon performs routine web tasks locally to maintain user privacy.
Opera Neon will also allow users to make and create things. Opera claims that Neon can generate websites, games, code snippets, or documents based on user prompts. These tasks are run through a virtual machine in the cloud, which continues working even if the user goes offline. For example, a user could ask Neon to "make a landing page for a product" or "build a newsletter template," and the AI will research, design, and generate the content within the browser instead of using a separate tool or app.
Opera Neon will be available to only premium Opera subscribers, and interested users can join a waitlist at operaneon.com.
