Meta has officially moved Threads from Threads.net to Threads.com.

Threads was launched as Threads.net in August 2023. At that time, the domain name was owned by another startup, and users who visited the URL were then directed to the company’s page. However, after Meta acquired the Threads.com domain in September 2024, it began redirecting traffic from Threads.com back to the original site.

The domain change, which quietly began in late 2024, is now fully active. This change also comes with some new desktop updates, announced.

Custom columns give Threads more dashboard-like control

Threads on desktop now looks and works more like a customizable dashboard. Custom feeds now appear at the top of the page—just like on mobile—for users using the single-column layout. Users can also add multiple columns—whether for feeds, saved posts, or search results—and arrange them however works best for their workflow.

There’s also a new column icon on the right side of the screen. Users can add columns for feeds, saved posts, insights, or even specific profiles by clicking this icon. They can drag and drop columns around the page.

A new sharing tool makes Threads more Instagram-friendly

Threads is also adding a new feature to copy a Threads post as an image. Instead of taking a screenshot, users can now convert a post into an image file and share it on Instagram or other platforms directly.

There’s also a new composer button (“+”) that follows users as they scroll through their feeds. The feature displays a “pop-up composer,” allowing users to craft and write posts wherever they choose.

Threads is testing cross-platform follower uploads

Last week, Meta began testing a feature that lets users upload the list of people they follow from other platforms, starting with X. If this rolls out widely, it could offer brands a faster way to build an audience on Threads by porting over existing connections.
