TikTok has made its ads Model Context Protocol (MCP) server available as a ready-made connector inside eight AI platforms and registries, including Claude and Perplexity. Advertisers who already work in one of those assistants can now link a TikTok ad account to it without a developer setting up the server first.

TikTok announced the move at Advertising Week New York on 5 October, in a TikTok Newsroom post that bundled several updates for advertisers. The full list of destinations is Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.

From a Server to a Connector

The server itself is not new. In May, TikTok opened its ad platform to third-party AI agents through the same MCP server. At the end of June it added Agentic Hub, a marketplace of prebuilt AI Skills that run on top of it.

What changes is where the connection starts. MCP is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call another system's tools. Before a directory listing, an advertiser reached TikTok's server by pasting its address into an AI tool by hand. A listing puts TikTok in the assistant's own list of connectors, so a media buyer searches for it, clicks connect and signs in.

In Claude, that flow runs through the Connector Directory. TikTok's setup guide for Claude says the connection needs a Claude Pro or Max plan and a TikTok for Business account. The authorization lasts 30 days, after which the advertiser has to grant it again.

What the Claude Connector Leaves Out

The one-click route comes with a narrower toolset. TikTok's MCP documentation says the server exposes around 400 tools, covering campaign management, reporting, catalogs, creative assets, audiences and Business Center administration.

The version listed in Claude's directory drops 26 of them, according to TikTok's list of unavailable tools. Most are billing and payment functions: invoices, balances, billing groups, fund transfers and payment portfolios. TikTok's own diagnosis agent, which troubleshoots performance problems in ad accounts, campaigns and ad groups, is missing too.

Teams that need those tools can still add the server manually. The effect is that building campaigns and pulling reports sit one click away, while anything that touches money needs the deliberate, manual setup.

A Growth Figure Without a Base

TikTok says the number of advertisers using its MCP for campaign activation and management has grown by more than 200% since launch, citing its own internal data from July to September 2026. It gives no starting figure, so the claim shows the direction of adoption but not its size.

The announcement also quoted George Velonias, head of growth marketing at Wayfair Canada. He described the MCP as central to how his team builds campaigns, uploads creative and analyzes performance.

Distribution Is Now the Contest

Ad platforms have converged on MCP over the past six months. In April, Meta launched ads connectors for ChatGPT and Claude, which advertisers set up by pasting a server address into a custom connector. In June, Snap opened its ad platform to outside agents with a server of its own.

With servers now common, the difference sits in how quickly a marketer can switch one on. A listing in an assistant's directory, and in the IAB Tech Lab's registry of agents, turns TikTok's server into something a buyer finds in a search box rather than something an engineer has to install.
