YouTube is currently testing an AI-generated video carousel that shows up when users enter a search query. According to the platform, when users search for topics like shopping ideas, local places, or things to do in a specific area, the system will generate short clips based on the users’ searches.

The company first mentioned this AI feature back in April when it announced plans to experiment with AI Overviews in YouTube search results. YouTube says the feature is designed to help users "discover relevant videos and information."

The feature will be available to randomly selected U.S. Premium subscribers in English.

How the new AI-generated carousel videos will work

According to the platform, when users enter a query like “things to do in London” or “best smartwatches under $200,” YouTube’s AI will automatically generate a horizontal carousel of video clips. Each video in the carousel displays a headline and short description generated by AI to explain why the video matches the query.

The videos then play in sequence from left to right, giving the user a continuous viewing experience. Users can tap on the thumbnails underneath the video player to skip to a different clip.
